Poem: I love you

Written by: Fenna Vlekke

This poem is about the conflicting feelings an abuse victim may have towards the person who abuses them. Especially in a domestic violence setting. I'm curious if other survivors recognise this conflict and what non-survivors think of this dynamic.

*Trigger warning*

I love you

I'm holding your hand

Looking in your eyes

Wondering who you are today

I love you
I love you

I'm walking through that door
Trying hard to smile
Hoping you will not, today

I love you
I love you

As my smile disappears
Teardrops fall, one by one
As my eyes close slowly
I am forever gone

I'm walking out of the room
Trying hard to smile
Hoping you will not, again

I hate you
I love you
